  • Did I include labels for my axis, bars, and lines? Are the numbers in my tables well formatted? Does my audience prefer large numbers to be abbreviated with ‘1K, 1M, 1 B’ notation, or should I use full digit numbers?
  • Will my audience use mobile phones to check out my dashboard? Will it be presented on a screen in the office? How is the UX in this regard?
  • How is the styling of my dashboard? Are we using colors from the organization?
  • How are my graphs titled? Is it clear what every report and its individual elements mean?

Choosing the proper information density is one of the most challenging aspects when designing a dashboard. While including every available data point on a dashboard can be tempting, doing so can be counterproductive. Overloading dashboards can make it difficult for end-users to identify the most important information or see the story the data is trying to tell. Instead, dashboards should be designed with a specific goal in mind and only include the most relevant information.

3. Deliver Actionable Insights
